Ryan Shade's "Lucid Dream" is a funky disco house single released on Music Advisor Recordings, part of the Klangspot family, crafted as an upbeat anthem for modern DJ sets and club sound systems. The track draws on '70s funk, disco basslines, and jackin’ house drums, featuring a bouncy, syncopated walking bassline and classic Jackin’ House drum programming with swing. Klangspot Recordings highlights that the title "Lucid Dream" refers to the alert, controlled feeling of a party, distinguishing it from ambient music and positioning it as a focused, feel-good house track.
Some dreams contain a brief moment of awareness: you realize you are asleep, the usual rules loosen, and you can choose where the dream goes next. That is a lucid dream.
That alert, loose feeling runs through Ryan Shade‘s new disco house single.
Released as “Lucid Dream” on Music Advisor Recordings, part of the Klangspot family, the track leaves darker techno behind for upbeat Funky Disco House. Ryan Shade draws on ’70s funk, disco basslines, and jackin’ house drums, then gives those references the force needed for modern DJ sets and club sound systems.
“Lucid Dream” joins the current disco house revival with a direct, dancefloor-minded groove. It fits a summer set, but also works in the car, at the gym, or in a living room before a night out.
What defines the dancefloor pulse in Ryan Shade's “Lucid Dream”?
The title “Lucid Dream” could suggest ambient music or a slower electronic track. Ryan Shade takes it in the opposite direction.
-
The dream is a party: lights, smoke, a loud system, and the freedom of disappearing into a crowd. “Lucid” brings a sense of control to that escape. This is not the sound of an uncontrolled rave, but a focused, feel-good house track with its eyes open.
-
The feeling is physical and alert. The energy resembles the point in a DJ set when a fresh record cuts through the room and people look up before realizing they are already moving.
How “Lucid Dream” finds its funk
On “Lucid Dream,” Ryan Shade uses familiar Nu Disco elements with a clean, current finish. The song respects disco’s feel without copying an old record bar for bar. That balance gives this funky house release its own shape.
What are the key characteristics of the bassline in “Lucid Dream”?
In Disco House, the bassline carries much of a track’s weight, and it does that work here.
-
The groove comes from a walking bass part that feels closer to a player than a fixed programmed loop. It is bouncy, syncopated, and full. Against the kick drum, it locks into the four-on-the-floor pulse that keeps this disco house track moving.
-
Its tone has a slap-bass snap: rounded, percussive, and slightly playful. That choice gives the low end character rather than the feel of a generic club preset.
How does the rhythm in “Lucid Dream” contribute to its sound?
The drum programming takes cues from classic Jackin’ House, where swing matters as much as volume.
-
The swing stops the rhythm from sitting too rigidly on the grid. Hi-hats shuffle around the beat to create a rolling motion. It recalls ’70s funk, while modern compression gives the drums enough force for electronic music playlists and DJ mixes.
-
The percussion includes light conga, shaker, and tambourine parts. They keep the top end active without distracting from the bassline or kick drum.
What are the key melodic details in “Lucid Dream”?
The disco character is clearest above the rhythm section.
-
The synths use bright, filtered chord stabs that open gradually as the arrangement develops. The chords provide larger release moments without turning the song into a hands-in-the-air anthem.
-
The vocal chops do not make “Lucid Dream” a full vocal house song. Brief soulful samples add human texture, but the rhythm remains in control.
Ryan Shade’s disco house approach
Ryan Shade is a producer on the Music Advisor roster. His work moves between deeper electronic music and house records with disco at their center.
-
With “Lucid Dream,” he leans more clearly into Funky/Nu Disco. There are traces of the accessible disco house appeal heard in Purple Disco Machine and Duck Sauce, though Ryan Shade does not simply repeat their formulas.
-
The mix remains clean when bass, percussion, chords, and vocal fragments arrive together. Each part has room, which makes the song work on headphones as well as a larger club system.
Why disco house returns to the dancefloor
“Lucid Dream” belongs to an ongoing return of disco sounds in dance music. Disco house endures because its rhythms leave room to breathe and invite people to move together. A strong groove needs little explanation.
-
Disco leaves room for joy. Much club music favours tension, darkness, or sheer impact. A bassline with a little grin in it can offer a welcome alternative.
-
Nostalgia matters, but it is only part of the appeal. Listeners hear the warmth of older funk and disco records, while newer production gives those sounds more low-end weight and cleaner detail. Ryan Shade uses that contrast without treating disco as a costume.
Where “Lucid Dream” fits
This Ryan Shade track is made for dancing, though its steady pace also suits moments when you want energy without aggression.
How is “Lucid Dream” suitable for training and workouts?
It is a useful choice when momentum matters more than noise.
-
At roughly 122-126 BPM, the track suits running, cycling, and HIIT workouts. The regular pulse offers a pace to follow, while the brighter chords keep the mood from becoming grim. It is upbeat workout music that keeps its funk.
How does “Lucid Dream” set the mood before a night out?
It also fits the hour when friends are getting ready and deciding where to go.
-
“Lucid Dream” has enough lift to shift the mood in a room without becoming abrasive. People can talk over it at first, then the groove takes over and points the evening toward the door.
How can “Lucid Dream” provide a change of pace for your mood?
Had a bad day?
-
Put it on loud. A major-key hook, swinging drums, and a slap bassline will not fix everything. They may, however, break a sour mood faster than another quiet song. Sometimes a few minutes of movement is enough.

-
With “Lucid Dream,” the label presents a lighter disco house record. It works for open-air parties and daytime DJ sets, while still carrying enough weight for a later club slot.
-
The production is loud and polished enough for DJ use. The mix can sit beside bigger dance releases without losing the track’s loose funk feel.
How can “Lucid Dream” help you stay in the groove and where can you stream it?
Daily routines can leave people feeling half-awake. Ryan Shade takes the opposite approach and asks for your attention for a few minutes.
“Lucid Dream” is about choosing the dancefloor, or simply choosing movement over another round of overthinking.
The song stays in the present tense. Let the bassline do its job. Move if you feel like moving.
