Rian Milo and Zazenkai's track "Waves," released through Klangspot Recordings, is a collaborative piece blending chillout, lounge, and ambient genres. The song features Milo's warm, rhythmic lounge sensibility with Zazenkai's spacious, slow-moving ambient pads, creating a gentle pulse and open atmosphere. "Waves" moves between these styles without settling fully into one, offering an unhurried character with a soft, rolling rhythm. This makes the track ideal for reflective moods, background work, or winding down, showcasing Klangspot Recordings' approach to blending neighboring electronic styles.
What is the inspiration behind Rian Milo & Zazenkai's 'Waves'?
The water’s edge has its own repeating motion: tides return, waves break, and the rhythm carries on. Rian Milo and Zazenkai draw on that sense of movement in “Waves,” a collaboration shaped by a gentle pulse and plenty of open space.
Released through Klangspot Recordings, the track follows earlier work by the pair. It brings Milo’s club-ready lounge sensibility into contact with Zazenkai’s quieter ambient approach.
Rian Milo and Zazenkai
Their approaches meet without losing their individual character.
-
Rian Milo brings warmth and rhythm. His Chill House and Lounge releases, including “Poolside,” lean on easy grooves and bright production.
-
Zazenkai works in Cinematic Ambient and Drone. His contribution gives the track its slow-moving pads and spacious atmosphere.
On “Waves,” Milo anchors the track with the beat while Zazenkai fills the surrounding space. The two approaches sit together naturally, without competing for attention.
How “Waves” sounds
“Waves” moves between chillout, lounge, and ambient without settling fully into one genre. That openness suits its unhurried character.
-
A soft, rolling rhythm holds the track together. Rather than pushing toward the dance floor, the percussion moves in small pulses, like water against the side of a boat.
-
Synthesizer pads rise and fall behind the rhythm. Zazenkai’s touch is clear here: the sounds leave room around the beat and suggest a broad horizon without becoming heavy.
-
A light melodic line floats above the beat. It appears and recedes gently, closer to seafoam than to a large pop hook.
Why the rhythm feels calming
Part of the comfort may come from entrainment, the tendency to follow a repeating rhythm. Just as breathing can fall into time with waves at the beach, a steady musical pulse gives the mind something simple to follow.
The track’s tempo invites a slower pace. Its restrained movement suits moments when a busy day gives way to a more reflective mood. It cannot replace the beach, but it can sit comfortably at a desk, on a balcony, or in a dim room.
When to listen
“Waves” suits everyday settings where music should support the moment rather than take it over.
-
For laptop work in a cafe or shared workspace, the steady beat can sit beneath background chatter without demanding much attention.
-
At the end of the day, it fits a drink on the balcony or a quiet walk beside the river.
-
Its unhurried motion also works well with vinyasa yoga, where breath and movement follow a continuous rhythm.
-
The beat is gentle enough for winding down before bed, though listeners who need complete silence may prefer to stop it before turning in.

Listen to “Waves”
“Waves” leaves room to drift for a few minutes. Rian Milo and Zazenkai keep the mood calm, while the rhythm provides enough movement to remain present.
