The year 2025 is coming to an end. While revising the Klangspot website, I noticed that I published its first article in July 2017. Klangspot Recordings began as a music blog, a place to write about electronic music, artists, releases, and the records that stayed with me.
Klangspot Recordings' 2025 recap highlights founder Sascha Bauer's transition to full-time label management after 28 years in banking and IT. During this pivotal year, the independent label's catalog expanded to over 500 songs across six imprints, with releases achieving 275,000,000 streams on Spotify. Klangspot Recordings also marked a significant milestone by releasing its first vinyl album, emphasizing the tangible satisfaction beyond digital metrics.
Eight years later, Klangspot is an independent record label with 6 imprints. Since October 2025, I have run the label full-time. It still feels strange to write that. For 28 years, banking and IT shaped my working life. Music was always there, but it had to fit around everything else. This year, that balance changed.
I also want to thank my former colleagues for the years we shared. Leaving a familiar job after so long brings relief, doubt, excitement, and a fair amount of paperwork. I do not romanticize self-employment in the music business. It is demanding, and the work rarely ends when the day does. But it feels right.

Three things from this year stay with me.
The Klangspot catalog, across its six record label imprints, passed 500 songs. That number represents years of conversations, demos, revisions, release planning, artwork approvals, distribution deadlines, and plenty of late-night messages. A catalog does not grow by accident. Every track needs someone who believes it deserves to be heard.
Releases from the Klangspot family, along with projects I worked on as an artist or producer, reached 275,000,000 streams on Spotify. Streaming numbers can show that music is reaching listeners around the world, but they never tell the full story. A track with fewer streams can matter just as much when it connects with the right person, supports an artist’s next step, or introduces a new audience to a label.
I also worked on the release of a vinyl album for the first time. Digital releases move quickly. A vinyl record follows a different rhythm, with production decisions, physical limitations, manufacturing schedules, test pressings, shipping, and the simple fact that the finished album can be held in your hands. Seeing that record exist beyond a screen brought a kind of satisfaction that streaming statistics cannot measure.
People behind an independent music label
The numbers matter, but the people behind them matter more. Running an independent electronic music label means working with artists, producers, remixers, label partners, designers, distributors, promoters, and friends who are willing to offer honest advice. Good releases need good music, but they also need trust. Without it, even the best plan becomes tiring very quickly.
I have been lucky to work with people I genuinely enjoy being around. I especially want to thank Martin and Dirk. They gave me a great deal of support during the first months of self-employment in music, after 28 years in banking and IT. We did not plan to work together, but somehow we found each other.
That kind of connection is difficult to schedule. You can make business plans, set release dates, and prepare budgets, yet the people around you often determine whether the work remains enjoyable. Martin and Dirk were there when I needed support, and they made room for the conversations that do not fit neatly into a spreadsheet.
Plans for 2026
There is a lot planned for 2026, although some of it needs to stay quiet for now.
Klangspot Recordings will continue to release electronic music across its imprints. Several projects are in development, and I look forward to sharing them when the time is right. Some releases need patience. Artists need space to finish their work properly, and label plans sometimes change because a better idea appears halfway through the process. That is part of the job.
This post is already long enough, so I will not list every artist and person I worked with this year. Naming everyone would also reveal more than I want to share about next year’s releases. Still, I am grateful to all of you. If you sent a demo, released music, gave feedback, helped with a production, shared a track, bought a record, or listened to a Klangspot release, you were part of this year.
My rules for working in music
People often ask me about success in the music industry. I do not have a universal answer, and I am suspicious of anyone who claims to have one. Music careers are unpredictable. Timing matters. Taste matters. Luck is real. Consistent work matters too.
I keep coming back to two rules.
Money is not the main focus. Money matters, of course. Artists, labels, and everyone involved deserve fair payment for their work. But when money becomes the only reason for a release, the decisions get worse. I want to work on music I respect with people whose intentions are clear.
NEVER work with someone you would not have a beer with. In other words, work with people you like, trust, and get along with. It is a simple rule, but it has saved me trouble. Music projects can take months or years, and problems will happen. When they do, trust and direct communication matter more than polished promises.
The rest comes down to loving music and putting in the work. Listen carefully. Reply to people. Make decisions. Admit mistakes. Keep going when a release does not perform as hoped. Enjoy the moments when it does.
