It’s takeover time again. Fritz Kalkbrenner has selected 10 tracks for the Instrumental House Beats Spotify playlist, a weekly updated selection of melodic house, electronic instrumentals, and music for focused listening or late-night sets.
Fritz Kalkbrenner has taken over Klangspot Recordings' 'Instrumental House Beats' Spotify playlist, curating 10 tracks that highlight the patient, melodic side of house music. This takeover follows the release of his sixth studio album, 'True Colours,' which notably became his fourth album to reach the top 10 of the German album charts. Kalkbrenner's selection offers a useful introduction to his instrumental house music, featuring collaborations with Ben Böhmer and tracks that balance vocal and instrumental electronic music.
The Fritz Kalkbrenner playlist takeover followed the release of his sixth studio album, ‘True Colours.’ The album arrived ten years after his debut, ‘Here Today Gone Tomorrow.’ True Colours is his fourth album to reach the top 10 of the German album charts.
For anyone looking for Fritz Kalkbrenner’s instrumental house music, this takeover offers a useful introduction. His selection focuses on the patient, melodic side of house: tracks shaped by rhythm, atmosphere, and gradual development rather than immediate hooks.
Fritz introduced True Colours with ‘Kings & Queens,’ followed by ‘Good Things.’ Both songs later received remixes from Township Rebellion, Stil & Bense, and Mendo. The remixes move the songs closer to the club while keeping their songwriting in focus.
True Colours contains 13 tracks, including six instrumentals. Fritz worked with Ben Böhmer on three of them. Böhmer curated the ‘Instrumental House Beats‘ playlist in December, so his presence in this selection feels fitting. Their collaborations sit naturally alongside the playlist’s melodic house direction.
I think the album is excellent. The tracks feel considered, with little that seems included simply to extend the running time. Its sequencing is particularly effective: vocal songs and instrumentals alternate through much of the record, maintaining momentum without dividing it into separate moods.
Fritz Kalkbrenner’s voice remains one of the clearest signatures in his music. Its worn, direct character suits these songs, yet the instrumental pieces never feel like breaks between vocal tracks. They hold their own. That balance makes True Colours work for listeners drawn to both vocal electronic music and instrumental house playlists.
Accessible tracks including Kings & Queens, Good Things, and the longer Last Summer have structures that work well beyond a club setting. Other cuts take more time to unfold and may fit especially well in a DJ set, where a mix needs a shift in pace without losing its melodic line.
That contrast gives the album range. Some tracks invite repeat listening at home, while others suit the point in a set when the groove has settled in. The record moves between song-led electronic music and stripped-back club material without forcing either approach.
The playlist selection makes this contrast easier to hear. Tracks such as “Bright,” “Rye,” and “Just The One” link the collaborative work of Fritz Kalkbrenner and Ben Böhmer to contemporary deep melodic house. “Cerulean,” “Ride,” and “Rain Parade” return the focus to Fritz’s instrumental writing.
I was disappointed that Fritz, like many artists, had to postpone his announced tour. He is a convincing live performer as well as a producer, and his songs often take on a different shape in a live setting. New dates for autumn were announced. Save Fritz Kalkbrenner’s Instrumental House Beats selection to your Spotify library if you want to revisit it. As the playlist is updated weekly, it remains a useful place to find melodic house instrumentals beyond this takeover. Give True Colours time from start to finish, too. Its vocal tracks, club-oriented cuts, and quieter instrumentals offer plenty to draw from for your own electronic music playlists.
