Calming pet music, such as Klangspot Recordings' "Cats & Dogs Playlist," utilizes specific audio characteristics like slow tempos, sustained pads, and soft midrange sounds to create a steady background layer for dogs and cats. This approach employs "acoustic masking" to help reduce the impact of disruptive outside noises like traffic or thunder, making the environment feel less unpredictable for pets, who can hear frequencies up to 64,000 Hz. Klangspot Recordings' playlist specifically avoids sharp high-frequency peaks and abrupt volume shifts, with many tracks running at a gentle 50 to 60 beats per minute, to suit pets sensitive to noise.
Pets are family members. They share our homes, routines, and the quieter moments of the day. When a dog or cat becomes frightened, it can be hard to know what may help them settle.
Anyone who has watched a dog tremble during a summer storm or a cat disappear beneath the bed when fireworks begin knows the challenge. You cannot explain that the noise will pass, but you can make the surroundings feel safer, quieter, and more familiar.
A comfortable bed, a pheromone diffuser, familiar people, and a protected room may all help. Sound can matter too, especially when traffic, thunder, construction, or fireworks are part of the problem.
The Cats & Dogs Playlist is a collection of calm ambient music and gentle piano music selected by Klangspot Recordings.
Its musical identity is spacious and understated: ambient drones, slow piano, soft textures, and tracks with few shifts in volume rather than familiar classical pieces or busy background music. It suits quiet departures, stormy evenings, holiday fireworks, car rides, and settling down at night, offering a steady background layer when the house or neighbourhood feels too loud.
The playlist is available on Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, and Tidal.
This guide looks at how dogs and cats hear, why sudden noise can upset them, and how low-volume ambient music for pets may soften interruptions. It also introduces artists whose work appears in the collection.
Why pets hear the world differently
Dogs and cats hear sounds that people do not notice. That difference matters when choosing calming music for a pet trying to sleep or settle after a stressful noise.
High frequencies can bother pets
Humans generally hear frequencies up to about 20,000 Hertz (Hz). Dogs can hear frequencies up to roughly 45,000 Hz, while cats may hear sounds up to about 64,000 Hz.
These abilities once helped their ancestors locate small prey. At home, they can leave pets aware of sounds that barely register with us, or that we cannot hear at all. A refrigerator motor, fluorescent light, electronic charger, or distant siren may bother an animal even when the room seems silent.
Many pet owners leave the television or pop radio on when they go out. That may suit some animals, but commercial music often contains bright treble, sharp drums, sudden voices, and abrupt changes in loudness. For a dog or cat that is sensitive to noise, calm pet music with a more even sound may be easier to tolerate.
Using sound to mask outside noise
The Cats & Dogs Playlist uses a simple audio method called “acoustic masking.”
Many tracks avoid sharp high-frequency peaks and use low tones, sustained pads, and soft midrange sounds instead. A continuous layer of sound can make traffic, distant thunder, or fireworks less noticeable. It will not block every loud sound, and it does not treat serious pet anxiety. Still, it may make a room feel less unpredictable.
What the playlist sounds like
This relaxing pet music playlist is built around tracks with few surprises. Klangspot Recordings selected slow, spacious pieces that remain in the background without the sudden hooks, drum hits, or dramatic shifts common in pop music.
1. Slow tempos and steady pacing
Animals, like people, move between alertness and rest. An anxious dog may pant, pace, breathe quickly, or struggle to lie down. Much of this playlist runs at about 50 to 60 beats per minute, while some tracks have no clear beat. A slow, even pace can suit a quieter routine when paired with low lights, a safe place to rest, and calm behaviour from the people in the room.
2. Few abrupt sounds
In music production, a transient is a brief spike in volume, such as a snare hit, cymbal crash, or shouted vocal. These sounds can startle pets that react strongly to noise. The playlist leans towards gradually swelling synthesizers and softly played piano. Some piano recordings use felt between the hammers and strings, which softens the attack of each note and creates a gentler, more even sound than a typical pop track.
3. Frequency-focused tracks
The collection includes tracks such as “Emotional Stability – 432Hz” by Spiritual Wisdom and ENOMISH. Some listeners choose music tuned to 432Hz instead of the common 440Hz standard. Claims that a specific tuning lowers cortisol or treats anxiety are not established veterinary care. Use these tracks as part of a calm pet routine, not as medicine.
The label behind the playlist
The Cats & Dogs Playlist comes from Klangspot Recordings, an independent label connected to Rutesheim and the Stuttgart region of Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
Stuttgart is associated with automotive manufacturing, engineering, and busy roads. Porsche and Mercedes-Benz both have long histories in the region. That everyday noise contrasts with the slow, quiet music selected for this pet relaxation playlist.
Klangspot’s ambient releases use sustained tones, restrained melodies, and space between sounds.
For calming dog music and cat music, careful mixing matters. A sudden bright sound can defeat the purpose of a quiet track. These selections generally maintain a smooth volume range, so they can play at a modest level through a speaker, phone, or smart device.
Artists on the playlist
The playlist includes independent ambient, neoclassical, and electronic artists. Their music differs in mood, but the selected tracks generally share a patient pace and restrained production.
Kasiedeo and Bent Johanson
Kasiedeo contributes extended ambient pieces including “Deep Space,” “Where the Old Gods Sleep,” and “Dark Clouds Passing By.” These tracks offer a broad background layer for fireworks or storms. Bent Johanson takes a cooler approach in tracks such as “Antarctica” and “Water & Ice,” using spacious tones and slow movement.
Zazenkai and natural textures
Zazenkai appears throughout the playlist. Tracks such as “Watching the Rain,” “Highlands,” and “Zauberwald” combine ambient instruments with nature-based textures. Rain sounds may help cover steady outdoor noise, although pets vary. Some seem comfortable with rain recordings, while others may prefer plain instrumental music.
Martin Böhmer and Hermann Marwede
Martin Böhmer contributes soft piano pieces such as “La Berceuse” and “Lueur.” They introduce melody without making the room feel busy.
Hermann Marwede also contributes several quiet piano works. Tracks including “Ein Aufenthalt im Forchenwald,” “Eisengriff,” and “Dove of Peace” draw on woodland and rural imagery linked with the Schwarzwald, or Black Forest. His measured, understated music can suit an evening rest routine or a calm car ride.
How to use the playlist
Music works best as part of a broader plan for a noise-sensitive pet. Keep the volume low to moderate, watch your pet’s response, and stop if the sound makes them more alert. Severe anxiety, destructive behaviour, or panic calls for a conversation with a veterinarian or qualified behaviour professional.
1. Separation anxiety and departure routines Dogs and cats often notice signs that you are about to leave, including keys, shoes, or a bag. Start the playlist about 30 minutes before you go, while you are still home and relaxed. If your pet responds well, leave it playing quietly after you leave. Over time, the familiar sound may become part of a predictable departure routine.
2. Fireworks and thunderstorms Prepare a quiet room before the noise begins. An interior room with closed curtains, bedding, water, and familiar toys is usually more useful than trying to respond once your pet is already frightened. Play ambient music at a comfortable volume to soften outside sounds. Do not turn it up so far that it becomes another source of stress.
3. Veterinary visits and car rides Car travel is difficult for many pets. Start the playlist before placing your pet in the car, then keep it at a modest volume during the trip. Soft piano tracks by Hermann Marwede or Cristian Vivaldi may make the cabin feel less tense, but they cannot replace safe carrier training or veterinary advice for motion sickness and severe fear.
4. Settling down in the evening A young puppy or kitten may become active just as the household begins to wind down. Lower the lights, reduce activity in the room, and play a slow track. Music for pet sleep works best when the rest of the environment also signals that it is time to rest.

How can the Cats & Dogs Playlist create a calmer sound environment for pets?
Pets depend on us to manage much of their environment. We cannot remove every stressful sound, especially during storms, construction, or holiday fireworks. We can give them a quieter place to retreat.
The Cats & Dogs Playlist is a simple, non-medical way to add gentle background sound to that space. It may mask interruptions and make daily routines feel more predictable. Some pets will ignore it. Others may seem more settled, and a few may clearly prefer certain tracks or no music at all.
If your pet struggles with thunderstorms, fireworks, or being left alone, begin on a calm day. Play one track and watch their body language. Relaxed ears, slower breathing, and choosing to lie down can be encouraging signs. Pacing, hiding, or greater agitation mean the setup needs to change.
Find the playlist on Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, or Tidal, and save it if it suits your pet’s routine. Use it alongside a safe room, familiar bedding, and professional support when pet anxiety is severe.
