Klangspot Nu Contemporary is a label for contemporary classical music that reimagines the classical tradition for today. Piano, strings, synths and chamber ensembles are at its heart, joined where the music calls for it by other instruments and new colours.
Our musical territory ranges from intimate solo piano to works for strings, synths and small ensembles. It draws on minimalism and repetition, on improvisation and on pieces that keep evolving rather than standing still. We like music that lets you hear the instrument up close: the touch of a key, the room it was recorded in, the moment a sound changes.
We approach contemporary classical as an open field: music with a distinctive voice, a sense of development and the freedom to move beyond familiar forms.
The people behind the label
Label Management
Dirk Mahlstedt, Martin Grotzke and Sascha Bauer already run Klangspot Nu Jazzical together successfully. With Nu Contemporary, they bring their combined decades of experience in artist development, label management and digital music discovery to a new chapter of contemporary classical music.
Dirk Mahlstedt
With over 25 years of music industry experience, Dirk Mahlstedt (former Edel:Kultur GM, KÜNSTLERHAFEN CEO since 2016) offers artist management and consulting services.
Martin Grotzke
Martin Grotzke is Managing Director of Klangspot Recordings. He has worked as an Artist & Marketing Manager for various record labels for more than 15 years. In 2009, he founded his own label Groundunder Recordings, building a catalog of over 250 releases in ambient, lo-fi and disco house.
Sascha Bauer
Sascha Bauer is the founder and Managing Director of Klangspot Recordings. With more than 500 releases across various genres, he combines his work as a music producer and playlist curator with a strong instinct for SEO, algorithms and digital music discovery.
